Evidence of research into target audience

The target audience for my magazine that I am aiming for are people between 16-24 year olds. This is both male and female. I have decided to use this target audience, as this will be the most effective ages for people in a college. This is because they will be up to date with the latest music and have an interest in my magazine. I have also started from age 16, as this is the age that people will be starting college. This will be good for my magazine as they will be interested in the magazine as they will want to know the college and I know that it is a definite age that will be in the college. Also, since they are 16 they will be more sophisticated and intelligent so that means I will be able to put more mature context into my magazine and they will be interested and understand it. I have also decided to stop at the age 24. I have decided to do this as I think that this is the highest age that people will still be interested in the latest rap/pop music or magazines. I have also stopped at 24 because I think that this is the age where people don’t really have that much time on their hands anymore because this is the age that people will be having jobs and they might have children so most of their time will be spent with them and they wont have much time for magazines.

Since the age groups I have chosen are quite young, they will have a lot more spare time on their hands when they’re not studying. This is an advantage of the age group as since they will have so much free time they may get a magazine so that they’re not bored. This will mean that more people are interested in the magazine as they have more free time. Also, the age groups that I have chosen are all in the age groups that you would expect someone to be in to read magazines. This is also a n advantage for me as more people will be reading my magazines in this age group than other age groups was as if it was other age groups that I was aiming at then they may have other things to do than read magazines. Also, the magazine could be an escape from studying. This is because when people study they tend to give themselves breaks so they use magazines to have a break. This will also be used to my advantage as the age groups that I am aiming at normally like the genre of music that I am putting in my magazine so more people will be interested in it.

As the age groups are mature age groups I will be able to add more mature and sophisticated context to the magazine. They will also enjoy reading and learning so this is why I will be making my magazine more informative rather than a magazine that you buy just to look at pictures and read stories. My magazine will be more intellectual than childish.

Since I have friends that listen to the same type of music as me, it makes it easier for both of us to relax as if we both want to listen to music then it is easier for us to do so as we don’t need to go through lots of songs to find one that we both like. I also play for my college football team and before games we listen to the genre of music that I am using in my magazine to get ready for the game and we all like this genre of music so it makes the preparation something to look forward to. These are the reasons that I have decided to choose the rap/pop genre for my music magazine. I also think that his genre of music is one of the most listened to genres of this day and age and this will help me make an effective magazine.
