Detailing the genre I have chosen

I have chosen to use the genre Rap as my genre for my magazine as I think that this style of music is listened to a lot in a college. In my magazine I will be using the most recognisable rappers such as Ice Cube, 2PAC and Dr. Dre. I have decided to do this as I think that if people round the college recognised the magazine then they would be more likely to buy the magazine. My model in my magazine will not be posing with the 'gangster smile' that a lot of professional magazines use as I think this send the wrong message across to the audience. i will have my model posing in a more sophisticated pose. I will do this because I don't want the magazine to give off the wrong impression. The colour scheme that I will be using will be wont be a range of colours as rap magazines don't have very bright and luminous colours like pop magazine covers. Also, I wont be using sharp font as this will make my magazine look less professional and this would effect the amount of buyers. Since my magazine is a music magazine based on the genre of rap, I will be using images and words to make sure that it is obvious that the magazine isn't a pop/hip-hop magazine.

I have been asked to design and create a front page, contents page and a double page spread for my college magazine. I am going to be choosing the genre of my magazine myself and I will also be using ideas that i gather from my research here.

i feel that in the last two weeks that i have adjusted well to AS media studies. in the first couple of lessons i didn't really understand what was going on and i didn't really have a clue what i was doing because i didn't study media at GCSE level and this made it even harder for me to adjust to these lessons but now i feel that i am used to AS media studies. i haven't been able to post all of my tasks that were set in the class as i wasn't able to make a blogger account due to the network restrictions. i am going to be completing these tasks again now that i have created a blogger account and i am using my spare time to catch up with the work outside of lessons. i have also been able to fit into AS media studies as my friend has done GCSE media and he was a big help to me as i was finding it hard but he has now been split into the other lesson which isn't very helpful to me.

Magazine Conventions

Masthead
i am going to use a masthead of similar design to the mast head of this magazine cover. i have chosen to do this as this masthead is very effective and recognizable even though the colors are simple but are still very effective. the font that is used helps this masthead be recognizable since the font is so simple that it is easier to remember. also i like how the model 2PAC is covering up the masthead but you still recognize the brand as it is so simple and effective.

Main/Central Image
i am going t apply the same style and maybe the same pose that is happening in this image to my magazine that i will be creating. i have decided to do this as the image is very effective as it isn't very dramatic or anything like that but still represents the rap genre as the model has lots of tattoos and he also has a necklace with a gun on. this makes the image very powerful even though he is just standing there. i also like how the image is overlapping the masthead and i think that i will apply this to my magazine cover.
Sell Line/Heading
i am looking to apply a sell line like the sell line on this magazine cover because i like how spaced out the sell line is and i like how they have put it in one of the two spaces that aren't covered by the main image. i also like how this sell line isn't very complicated and that it is only two words. this makes the sell line very effective. another thing that i like about the sell line is that it is in a very large font size and this makes it instantly recognizable. i will be looking to apply this style of sell line in my magazine.
